Fundraising

At Alston Primary School, we aim to develop children’s compassion, tolerance and understanding of others through becoming active members of the world community. We support a range of local, national and global charities throughout the year that foster values integral to our school mission; educating our children about the world around them and the challenges and difficulties faced by others. The children are provided with equal opportunities to have their voice heard; to explain their views, vote, organise and participate in charity events.

Through the teaching of different charities and our fundraising work, we aim to:

•    Promote involvement in local, national and international charities and communities
•    Enhance knowledge of different charities and their purpose
•    Promote pupil voice and initiative
•    Encourage pupils to develop a habit of regular charitable giving
•    Provide pupils with opportunities to plan and carry out projects
•    Ensure that the children are aware of their own rights, and the rights of others through the promotion of the Unicef Articles and charitable days and events.

Charity Voting

Each year group were given 3 charities, linked to a theme, to look at. They watched an advert for each of their charities and discussed the work that each charity does. They then voted in their classes for which charity they would like to fundraise for. The votes were then collected and final charities for each year group were decided.

Year 3 Help for Heroes

Year 3 raised money for ‘Help for Heroes’. We held a fabulous cake sale in our corridor. There was a variety of cupcakes, mini-rolls ad sweet treats sold! This week was also holocaust memorial week. We decided that this was a great opportunity for us to remember those who have been affected by conflict and their families.

Year 2 - British Heart Foundation

On Friday 9th February, Year 2 held a charity day to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. They wore red and pink clothes, tested their heart rates with a science experiment and raised lots of money with a heart themed raffle. In total they raised £156, which is a fantastic amount for such an amazing charity. Well done Year 2

Children in Need

The children, and staff, were invited to come to school wearing something that makes them feel good for a donation of 50p for BBC Children in Need.
The day started with an assembly where the children learnt all about BBC Children in Need and all the important work they do to support children all over the world.
The children were then given opportunities throughout the day to complete a variety of Children in Need themed activities.
We raised a total of £235! Thank you to all who donated.

Aston & Nechells Foodbank

On 29th September 2023, the children and parents of Alston Primary School were very generous with their donations of food and toiletries to Aston & Nechells Foodbank. They were very grateful for our donations and sent us a lovely message to show their appreciation.

“On behalf of Aston & Nechells Foodbank I would like to thank the pupils, their parents and the staff for the tremendous donations we received recently. They weighed 514.25kg.  In due course everything donated will be given out to families and individuals in crisis.”
