Innovate

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Year 6 are taking part in an Ultimate Dodgeball Tournament to raise money for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) as part of their current topic, Blood Heart. This week children have taken home sponsorship forms for the tournament taking place next Thursday 6th April. The sponsorship money raised will help the BHF to save and improve the lives of children with heart conditions. Our school will also benefit from this as we get to keep 20% of the money raised to spend on resources to help with your child's education.

The BHF rely on the generosity of families to help them continue with their vital work, so please do support your child by asking your relatives, friends and work colleagues to sponsor them.

Thank you for your support!

Over the last few weeks year six have attended a health and hygiene workshop delivered by the school nurse. The children learnt about the importance of hand washing and how bacteria can be easily transferred. The nurse used a UV light to show the amount of bacteria on our hands and taught us a hand washing technique to ensure we wash our hands thoroughly to prevent becoming ill.

Weston Park

Wednesday 21st/Thursday 22nd September

This week we visited Weston Park to experience what life was like “at home” in Britain during World War Two. We created our own gas masks and viewed a collection of authentic gas masks—including one for a baby, toddler and child. We also had the opportunity to try out the Anderson shelter and Morrison shelter as well as various types of 1940's clothing including RAF, Navy and Army uniforms, clothing for the Fire Service, as well as ladies dresses, coats, hats and furs. In the afternoon we learnt about and experienced a Black Out and Air Raid to understand what life was like for children as evacuees during World War Two.

Thursday 8th September

Today we looked at various safety aspects that we may experience on a daily basis. We learnt about e-safety, fire safety and road safety. We created posters about different aspects of road safety including the Green Cross Code and traffic symbols and signs. We also explored fire safety and devised a plan of what to do in the event of a fire in our own homes.
