Science investigation on Upthrust

(26/04/2016)

This week our year 5 pupils have been looking at another type of force in Science called Upthrust.

Some facts on Upthrust:

  • Upthrust is a force that liquids use to push up an object.
  • If the force of gravity is greater than the upthrust there will be a movement and the object will sink.
  • If the upthrust is larger than the force of gravity then the object will float.

Our pupils carried out an investigation to find out whether the shape (flat or a boat shape) of an object affects whether it will float or sink.

Take a look to see how our pupils got on during their investigation!

(19/04/16)

This term Year 5 have been learning about different kinds of forces such as Air resistance.

Some facts about Air resistance:

  • Air resistance is a force that is exerted on objects as they travel through air.
  • It causes things to slow down.
  • It works in the opposite direction of movement.

Year 5 carried out an investigation on Air resistance. The aim of their investigation was: Does carrying a flat board (A1, A3 and A4 size) affect how quickly you can run (time taken)?

Take a look at how our year 5 pupils got on with their investigation!
