Through our topic we learnt about the Celtic Religion today. We spent time reflecting upon how the Celts ask for help from their different Gods and Goddesses and how we ask for help in our differing faiths.
Collective Worship - 12.10.2017
This week it will be Black History Day on Friday. Today we had an assembly telling us what Black History is all about. Each year group will be learning about a significant figure from Black History. Year 3 will be learning about Lenny Henry.
It was fantastic to watch 6SS perform their class assembly on Live Stream today. They performed confidently and delivered the message of harvest clearly. The children always enjoy spotting their brothers and sisters, cousins and friends in the streamed assemblies!
Jewish people celebrate Sukkot which is just like the Christian Harvest Festival. Year 3 have been thinking about Harvest and raising money for the Red Cross to buy food for people in crisis around the world. We talked about Sukkot and how Jews decorate shelters at this time of year. The children brought in lots of food for Birmingham City Mission. Thank you parents.
Following assembly on Monday, the children discussed what Yom Kippur is and how it is good to be able to recognise the mistakes we make and be forgiven for them.
The children learnt about Zakah, the third pillar of Islam, and chose which charity they would give to. They had lots of interesting reasons why they would give to those charities. As a year group, we have chosen to give to The Red Cross this year and are thinking of different ways to raise as much as we can.
The children loved their visit to Sarehole Mill this week. They learnt about how people lived in the Stone Age and the Bronze Age.
PSHE - 11th September 2017
Today we were thinking about how to be safe near roads. The children had many ideas about how to do this:
Eshal - Cars shouldn't park on the pavement.
Nawal - Look for the green man before you cross the road.
Iqra - Wait for the cars to stop before you cross the road.
Saliq - You should hold an adult's hand to cross the road.
Muzamel - Never cross on your own. Stay on the path.
Amirah - If a car is coming, look both ways before you cross the road.
Aqsa - Let the cars go and then you can cross.
Iqra - You shouldn't cross the road between parked cars.
Laibah - Use a zebra crossing to cross the road safely.
Marta V. - Wait for the cars to stop before crossing at a zebra crossing.
