In our guided reading sessions we were learning how to summarise effectively. We looked at examples of existing book trailers and created our own using the iMovies app on the iPads.

Our Class Assembly
Thursday 22nd October
Our class assembly was all about poetry.
We looked at the different features of poetry including rhyming couplets, onomatopoeia and alliteration.
'Chip' took a visit to Poetryland to meet 'Poe' and 'Etry' where they explored all the features of poetry.
Ayesha and Mohammed did a fantastic performance of the poem 'Mccavity' written by T.S Eliot.
(Video to be uploaded soon!)
We would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents who attended our assembly!
Some of our year 6 children went on a one day residential to Oaker Wood Activity Centre. They participated in pizza making where the children made their own dough and cooked their pizzas in the outdoor Cob Oven before working in teams to create dens in the afternoon. Many children braved the Super Swing and 100m zip wire, where some overcame their fear of heights. The children thoroughly enjoyed this trip and did not want to leave!
Black History Day
Friday 2nd October
In year six we have been learning about Martin Luther King. He was a Baptist minister and one of the most important leaders who led peaceful protests to fight for equality during the 1960s. He hoped that America and the world could become a colour-blind society where race would not impact a person's civil rights. Martin Luther King may be best remembered for his famous “I Have a Dream” speech issued on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. He is considered one of the great public speakers of modern times and his speeches still inspire many to this day. We created timelines based on his life and learnt the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
We also had a special visitor who told us a story called 'Anansi and the turtle'.
Wednesday 23rd September
During the last week in English we have been learning about poetry. Firstly, we looked at a poem by John Drinkwater called 'I want to know'. We discussed how the language used impacted the reader and then used this to write our own versions of John Drinkwater's poem.
Today we looked at a poem called Mcavity. We began to learn the verses by heart then performed the poem to the class.
Friday 18th September
Today we looked at various safety aspects that we may experience on a daily basis.
We had the opportunity to explore the use of QR readers on the iPads in order to complete a treasure hunt based on how to stay safe online. We also created posters about fire safety and devised a plan of what to do in the event of a fire.
On Tuesday 15th September we visited Weston Park as part of our topic study. We had the opportunity to experience what life was like for children at home in Britain during World War Two. We created our own gas masks and viewed a collection of authentic gas masks - including one for a baby, toddler and child. We experienced an Air Raid and visited an Anderson shelter to discover what conditions were really like.
We would like to welcome children and parents from 6G to our class page!
We will regularly update this page with work and activities that have been completed in class and any information that needs to be shared with you.
Mrs Goodfellow and Miss Harris are looking forward to the year ahead!
Please watch this space for weekly updates!
